Aztec Tennis Reporter is a newsletter created in 1998 for players, coaches, alumni, and friends of San Diego State tennis. Neither the university nor its athletic department is responsible for its content.
ATR chronicles Aztec tennis matches (“Aztec Pair Upsets Top-Seeded Foes in Pac Coast Test”), reviews books (“Aztec History in a Tennis Novel”) and movies (“Borg vs McEnroe: The Reality of a Rivalry”), and updates teammates and readers (“Where Are We Now?”).
ATR’s founder and editor, John Martin, played on the Aztec men’s tennis team in 1957 and is a member of the SDSU Class of 1960.
Martin is a retired television and newspaper journalist. In 2003, he began covering the Grand Slams, the four major international tennis championships, as a writer and photographer. His tennis stories and photos from Wimbledon, Australia, France, and the United States have appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and The San Diego Union-Tribune, and online at ABC News.com.
