Strapped of funds that ordinarily flow from football and basketball, San Diego State’s athletic leaders have been struggling to avoid making damaging cuts to the two tennis team budgets.
They enlisted top athletes to lead a fundraising search, called Together We Rise. Among the athletes promoting the search is Aztec women’s tennis player Nnena Nadozie.
According to a recent survey, college tennis has been among the hardest hit by the pandemic’s financial fall-out.
In May, East Carolina University eliminated women’s tennis, but re-instated it this month after being challenged in court. Even so, East Carolina dropped men’s tennis last year.
