ENROUTE TO NCAAs: Vessa Turley, rear, and Jo-Yee Chan swept the draw at San Diego’s Barnes Tennis
Center in November, paving the way for their entry in NCAA Championships at Orlando, Fl.
Two Aztec women earned a berth in their first NCAA national championship in November.
Senior Jo-Yee Chan and freshman Vessa Turley reached the Round of 32 in Orlando.
They scored a successful fall season, according to the team website, which reported “an 11-2 record, capturing a Mountain West Fall Qualifier championship as well as an ITA Conference Masters title to earn San Diego State’s 15th NCAA berth.”
The official Aztec website continued: “The Aztecs faced Grace Levelston and Kendall Kovick out of BYU in the opening round. Despite battling in each game, Chan and Turley were unable to maintain the momentum and were ultimately tripped up 6-1, 6-1 by the Cougar duo.”
