San Diego State’s two college tennis teams begin new seasons in January as part of the beginning of a new century of sport that began with a campus tennis club in 1922.
The nine Aztec women, led by head coach Peter Mattera and associate head coach Nicolas Vinel, will stage 12 home matches, starting Jan. 21-22 against Sacramento State and UC Riverside.
The eight Aztec men, led by head coach Gene Carswell and associate head coach Jeff Thomsen, open Jan. 15 in a doubleheader against UC San Diego and a team to be chosen.
The Aztec women are Tamara Arnold of Switzerland, Julia Jordan of Long Beach, Alicia Melosch of LaJolla, Cecile Morin of France, Nnena Nadozie of Los Angeles, Regina Pitts of Los Angeles, Agustina Rimoldi Godoy of Argentina, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Thailand, and Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer of Orange, CA.
Among their notable opponents are Princeton, Penn, and Dartmouth. The Aztec men’s team also meet Penn as well as East Tennessee State.
